A Satellite Workshop, titled Clinical and Diagnostic Topics on CNS and Inflammation, will precede the opening of the 10th International Symposium on NeuroVirology and 2010 Conference on HIV in the Nervous System. This Workshop will focus on the most intriguing and challenging topics in the field of CNS inflammatory diseases. This workshop is being held as an independent event structured to complement both the Symposium and Conference.
The spectrum of CNS inflammatory disorders is complex, broad, and in constant evolution. It includes idiopathic forms of disease (such as multiple sclerosis), para/postinfectious diseases (like acute disseminated encephalomyelitis and all its variants), and leukoencephalopathies caused by a direct or immune-mediated viral action. Diseases such as these have been promptly recognized for their potentially life-threatening consequences. Studies of these diseases are facilitated by a multi-disciplinary approach that combines clinical findings with the use of sophisticated technologies, such as advanced MRI, to gain better insights in the etiopathogenetic mechanisms of nervous system compromise.
The goal of the Workshop will be to convey “translational” insights into these areas, from the molecular mechanisms to the clinical management of disease. Featuring speakers and chairpersons from Italy and around the world, the Workshop will provide a forum for the exchange of findings and ideas related to studies of neuro-infection and neuro-inflammation.
The Workshop, which has been structured around four main themes (see below), is being organized by individuals from several scientific institutions and groups, including (among others): (i) the Office of the Chair of Microbiology of the University of Milan, (ii) the Istituto Neurologico Mondino in Pavia, (iii) the Policlinico San Matteo in Pavia, and (iv) the Study Group on Neuroinfections of the Italian Society of Neurology.
The registration fees for attending the Workshop only will be €50 for faculty, scientists, and clinicians, and €30 for students, postdocs, and residents (not including VAT). Registered attendees of the 10th International Symposium on NeuroVirology are welcome to attend the Workshop at no additional cost.
To register for the Satellite Workshop only, complete and return the Workshop registration form (Italian and English versions are available). To register for the Workshop, 10th International Symposium on NeuroVirology, and 2010 Conference on HIV in the Nervous System, use the online registration system and indicate your interest in attending the Workshop during the registration process.
